Kat Martin is a local Utah artist who dabbles in a little bit of everything involving paint. She has been painting professionally as a mural creator and Portrait painter for several years, decorating the walls of children's bedrooms with friendly figures and images. Less than a year ago. her skills took a much darker and pop-culture inspired turn. She takes other artist's old discarded Americana works (usually found at your local thrift store) and brings new life to them with creepy, funny or interesting additions, matching the style of the painter before to make it appear as part of the original. The best way to sum it up would be her slogan: "Giving old art new death." It all started with a collection of zombies staggering toward you into a traditional Bob Ross style landscape. She has since moved on to almost everything including The Creature from the Black Lagoon, Sharktopus, At-At's from Star Wars and Zombie Alice in Wonderland. Her work can be seen locally at Blonde Grizzly Art Gallery, Dr. Volts Comic Connection, Play n Trade Salt Lake, Elemente furniture consignment as well as several festivals including the monthly Craft Sabbath and Slug's magazines annual Craft lake City.
