Veronica Perez was raised drawing and creating art inspired by traditional folk arts of various cultures.

This influence can be seen today in her vivid paintings. Veronica employs a keen command of colors to portray historical images and a unique brand of iconography rooted in her own Mexican and Indigenous culture. As a Chicana artist, Veronica draws on her culture and identity as forms of strength and creativity. Her work often honors community events and activism, past and present.

Her paintings offer representations and stories of indigenous pasts, present day issues and future concerns which often go unaddressed. Her work is strongly inspired by her experiences, identity and ancestry.

Veronica’s work strives to highlight the strength, dignity and resilience of people. As a form of resistance, she shares ‘her’story from a personal perspective and identity, rather than allowing it to be silenced. It is a testament of resilience that these stories remain alive despite years of conquest, oppression and attempted silencing.

When she is not painting, Veronica is creating modern folk art such as jewelry, cards, magnets, keepsake boxes and candles (Vero’s Crafts y Cositas). Her arts and crafts have been selected to participate in local craft shows and boutiques such as Craft Lake City, Craft Sabbath and the Hive Gallery & Boutique.

Veronica has helped create four community murals with the Northwest Mural Project & Mestizo Youth ArtWorks, a mural apprenticeship program designed to educate youth about mural-making and art as a viable career.
